Well, it has happened. The government has decided to temporarily “shut-down” due to the lack of a new budget. And with the continuing arguments about funding and Obamacare, this shutdown, or perhaps we can call it a “show-down” stands poised to be around for some time.

So how does the recent Government “shutdown” affect bankruptcy filings and the court? Well, in the Central District a notice went out late September stating the the Federal Bankruptcy Court will “run out of money” on October 15, 2013 and will subsequently close it’s doors.

Effective October 1, 2013, the offices of the United States Trustee closed their doors as well. So at this time it unclear who is watching the henhouse so to speak. The United States Trustee is responsible for the “random” audits and reviews of bankruptcy cases. So if your case looks shaky, now may be the time to file.

And, as we get deeper into this showdown shutdown, more and more problems will arise. So hang on tight ladies and gentlemen, it going to be a bumpy ride.
